How to Celebrate the Holidays in Downtown Savannah

Make sure to check out our Play page for information about all of Savannah’s holiday festivals and parades.

From thousands of lights and decorations all around Downtown Savannah to colorful parades, shows, and experiences, Savannah has plenty of holiday cheer! If you’re moving to Savannah this holiday season or already live here, these are some of the best places to enjoy the holiday season in Downtown Savannah.

Broughton Street

Each year, the City of Savannah puts up a beautiful, big 50-ft-tall Christmas tree at the intersection of Bull and Broughton streets. The Christmas tree lighting, which takes place the day after Thanksgiving, is the kick-off to the holiday season in Savannah. We even have a name for this season: the Savannah Holly Days. During this magical time of year, the city’s Christmas tree is the central spot for snapping holiday photos.

River Street

While River Street is typically a tourist destination, Savannah’s Waterfront celebrates Christmas on the River, and locals flock to this area of Downtown Savannah to enjoy dance segments, band performances, and youth choirs singing carols. The Savannah Christmas Market at the Plant Riverside on River Street is the perfect holiday destination, hosting various events from November 16, 2023, to January 1, 2024. The Kid’s Corner is fantastic for families with children. The district offers activities like letters to Santa, gingerbread decorating, and more.

City Market

During the Christmas season, visiting Savannah’s City Market is a must-visit. It’s the perfect place to view holiday decor, enjoy caroling, and grab a bite to eat in a quintessential and picturesque holiday environment. One of Savannah’s main gathering places, this part of Downtown Savannah also offers the best shopping for gifts, arts, crafts, and holiday specials. Starting November 24th, City Market offers special holiday activities and events from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM.

The Savannah Theatre

Love Broadway musicals?  A Christmas Tradition at the Savannah Theatre is a glitzy 2-hour live performance in one of Savannah’s most beautiful theaters. The show even includes an entertaining Rockettes-style performance by Santa and his reindeer! Savannah’s annual Christmas show starts on November 23rd and runs through December 24th.
