Art Scene

With over 35 galleries in Downtown alone, the art scene in Savannah is extraordinary, to say the least. Most of the art galleries can be found throughout the very walkable City Market area and along River Street in the Historic District. In fact, City Market’s upstairs 19,000 square foot Art Center houses two dozen-plus local artists’ studios and is open to the public throughout the week. Not to mention, students from all over the world attend the globally recognized Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), one of the most prestigious art schools in the South. Over the years, the university has dramatically influenced much of the Downtown area and the vibrantly creative nature of our coastal town. 

Savannah has bountiful options for residents to learn, study, and relish art. Local initiatives like ARTS Southeast strive to develop awareness and appreciation of the arts through programming and connectivity of area artists. The city’s Savannah Cultural Arts Center (SCAC) offers residents easy and affordable access to the arts. Adult and youth classes, workshops, free events, a performance theater, and diverse art galleries are open to the public and available to community residents and visitors through the center. Here on the creative coast, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy an eclectic array of artistic genres and styles.
