Activity Overview

One of the most enticing reasons to move to Savannah is because its located along the Intracoastal waterway. Boating is extremely popular here. The creeks, rivers, and deep water access provide tons of opportunities to explore and enjoy water sporting activities. During the summer we love anchoring at one of the nearby barrier islands for the day. Water tubing on the winding rivers offers an exciting Saturday activity for kids and adults alike. Anglers love venturing out to open waters for deep-sea fishing. We especially enjoy holiday events like watching the Fourth of July fireworks from a spot on the water and participating in the annual Boat Parade of Lights during the holiday season. After a long day in the sun, we like to dock at local restaurants like AJ’s Dockside on Tybee or at the Wyld near East Savannah.

Most neighborhoods with waterfront properties offer a community boat ramp, marina, or yacht club. These often require a membership fee and can have added benefits like community pools, sporting activities, restaurants, and events. Those of us who prefer to skip the fees utilize the numerous public boat ramps located throughout Savannah. For those who choose to spend more time on the water and less time maintaining a boat, boat clubs provide an easy answer. Boat clubs allow members to reserve and use a different boat in their fleet each time the member goes boating. Club attendants take care of both prepping the boat and cleaning it upon return. Whether we need to rent a boat, house it somewhere, or find quick access to the ocean, our city has plenty of options to fit our boating needs.
