208 Wine Bar

The story of 208 began with James and his family opening a wine store in Bloomington, Indiana, just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Although the store was well-received by customers, it struggled to stay afloat during lockdowns and closed after a year. However, the family’s desire to create a great place to share excellent wine with others persisted. Fate brought James and Christina together, and they started hosting Wine Wednesdays for neighbors, which became a neighborhood favorite. Inspired by these evenings, they went on a wine pilgrimage to Rioja, Spain, and created unforgettable memories around great wine. Eight months later, James discovered a stunning building on Factors Walk with a “For Lease” sign and texted Christina a photo of it. Here they are now.

Guinn and Ryan’s friendship began in 2011 at The Rail, a famous Savannah dive bar. Ryan was playing music on the jukebox and taking requests from other patrons when he met Guinn. They started talking and discovered they both came from New England and had been regulars at the same local spots in Rhode Island. They became best friends and spent their weekends exploring Savannah’s hospitality scene. When Ryan moved to Germany, they traveled around Europe together and fell in love with the concept of “sobremesa” – spending time with friends around a table with good food and wine, chatting and sharing stories. They decided to bring this experience to Savannah by opening Sobremesa, a place where everyone can enjoy good wine, food, and company. They believe that time spent with loved ones is precious and invite everyone to join them for a night to remember.
